The short version

The arrest happens at 2 a.m. The account has to answer then.

DUI lawyer is searched about 135,000 times a month at $15 to $134 a click, the highest bids in defense work. NHTSA counts 11,904 alcohol-impaired driving deaths in 2024. A defense account is built charge by charge, runs when someone can answer, and works inside the limits Google sets on criminal defense advertising.

Sound familiar?

What defense firms tell us before we see the account

Defense lawyers who call us describe the same four problems. Most of them come back to the hours the ads run and the charges they are built around.

Our ads run all night and the calls go to voicemail.

Defense searches come when the arrest happens. If nobody answers at 2 a.m., the ad should not run at 2 a.m., or the call should reach someone who can book the consultation.

DUI eats the whole budget.

DUI lawyer runs $15 to $134 a click, roughly double a general criminal defense search. It needs its own budget so felony and expungement work still gets a bid.

Our agency wants to retarget people who read our DUI page.

Google lists criminal defense lawyers as an example in a sensitive category of its personalized advertising policy. Customer match, your data segments, audience expansion and lookalikes are not available for it.

A bail bond company wants to co-advertise with us.

Google does not allow promotion of bail bond services that act as surety. Keep that out of your ads and your landing pages.

How clients search

DUI carries the highest bids in defense, and expungement the lowest

Keyword Planner shows the spread. DUI searches cost about twice a general defense search, and expungement costs a fraction of either. They are different clients on different clocks: the DUI call comes the night of the arrest, the expungement call comes years later, during business hours.

So the account is split by charge, with hours set per campaign and a page that says what happens next for that charge in your counties.

The demand

Agencies reported 737,181 DUI arrests in 2025

The FBI's Crime Data Explorer shows 737,181 arrests for driving under the influence reported for 2025, from agencies covering about 96 percent of the US population. These are reported counts, not a national estimate. NHTSA counts 11,904 people killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes in 2024, 30 percent of all traffic deaths.

For the account, the steadiness matters. DUI arrests are spread across every county and every week, and weekend nights are when the calls come.

Google's rules

Criminal defense is a sensitive category, and bail bonds are not allowed

Google's personalized advertising policy lists criminal defense lawyers as an example under commission of a crime, a sensitive interest category. For those, Google says advertisers can use predefined Google audiences but cannot use advertiser-curated audiences, which include customer match, your data segments, audience expansion and lookalike segments.

Separately, Google's policy on bail bond services says promotion of bail bond services that offer to act as surety to secure bail for a defendant is not allowed. A defense firm can advertise its own services; it should not carry bail bond offers in its ads or on its pages.

One campaign per charge

DUI, felony, drug, domestic violence, expungement and federal, each with its own page and budget.

Hours set per campaign

DUI and arrest searches run when someone answers. Expungement runs in business hours.

The retained client as the conversion

Imported from your practice management system against the click, so the bids follow retainers.

No remarketing and no bail offers

Both are ruled out by Google policy. An agency proposing either has not read it.

What we checked

Where the facts on this page come from

Search volumes and bid ranges are from Google Keyword Planner for the United States, read 8 October 2026. DUI arrest counts are from the FBI Crime Data Explorer for 2025, and alcohol-impaired deaths from NHTSA's DOT HS 813 815. The criminal defense example is from Google's Commission of a crime policy page, the bail bond rule from Google's Bail bond services policy, and the Local Services Ads category, requirements and badge wording from Google's help pages, all read 8 October 2026.

What this page does not claim

No defense cost per lead, retainer rate or case value, because none is published in a source we can verify. No case results. Nothing here is legal advice about your state's advertising rules.

Campaign structure

The eight defense lines, each with its own clock

A first DUI, a felony drug charge and an expungement are three different clients on three different clocks. Each line below gets its own campaign, its own hours and its own page.

DUI and DWI

DUI lawyer is searched about 135,000 times a month at $15 to $134 a click, the highest bids in defense.

Felony defense

Criminal defense lawyer runs about 135,000 a month at $7.34 to $76.07.

Drug charges

Searched by charge and by county. A separate page for each charge you want.

Domestic violence

Domestic violence attorney draws about 9,900 a month at $7 to $67.

Expungement

Expungement is searched about 40,500 times a month at $1.87 to $13.26. Cheap, calm and planned.

Federal cases

Criminal lawyers federal draws about 4,400 a month at up to $85. Few firms, high stakes.

Juvenile

Searched by parents, often during the day. A different page and a different tone.

Traffic and license

A lower fee and a high volume. Its own budget, so it never eats the DUI campaign.

Four things worth walking away from

An offer to retarget your website visitors

Google lists criminal defense lawyers as a sensitive category. Advertiser-curated audiences are not available.

Ads running when nobody answers

Defense searches come at night. A missed call is a client who called the next firm.

One budget for DUI and everything else

DUI clicks cost about twice a general defense click. Without its own budget it takes all of it.

Bail bond offers in your ads

Google does not allow promotion of bail bond services. Keep them off your ads and pages.

Criminal lawyer services and DUI lawyer services are national Local Services Ads categories

Google lists both among its US Local Services Ads categories, and neither is one of the seven restricted to California and Florida. Google's US requirements page lists identity checks for the business owner and fieldworkers, business and owner background checks for select users, professional liability insurance where local law requires it, and a state bar license check for each criminal or DUI lawyer in the firm. Google says it is launching a single badge for all advertisers, the Google Verified badge. Read from Google's requirements page and category list on 8 October 2026.

Straight answers

Questions we get asked

Is criminal defense a Google Local Services Ads category?

Yes. Google lists Criminal lawyer services and DUI lawyer services among its US Local Services Ads categories, and neither is one of the seven restricted to California and Florida, which are architect, drain expert, home insulation, insurance agency, interior designer, piercing studio and tattoo studio. Google's requirements page lists a state bar license check for each lawyer in the firm. We read both on 8 October 2026.

Can you retarget people who visited our website?

No. Google's personalized advertising policy lists criminal defense lawyers as an example of a sensitive category. Advertisers can use predefined Google audiences but not customer match, their own data segments, audience expansion or lookalikes.

Can we advertise bail bonds?

No. Google's bail bond services policy says promotion of bail bond services that offer to act as surety in order to secure bail for a defendant is not allowed.

What does a DUI click cost?

Keyword Planner shows dui lawyer at $15 to $134 at the top of the page and dui lawyer near me at $7.80 to $94.07, read on 8 October 2026. General criminal defense searches run about half that, and expungement far less.

How many DUI arrests are there each year?

The FBI Crime Data Explorer shows 737,181 DUI arrests reported for 2025, from agencies covering about 96 percent of the population. That is a reported count, not a national estimate.

Have you worked with law firms before?

Yes. Across the team's career we have managed 15+ law firm accounts. We do not name firms or publish their results without written permission.

How much does a criminal defense marketing agency cost?

Blue Grid Media charges $445 a month for Local Services Ads management, from $695 for Google Ads and $995 for both, month to month with no setup fee. The Google Ads fee follows your monthly ad spend: $695 up to $3,000, $995 from $3,000 to $8,000 and $1,495 from $8,000 to $20,000. In our study of 62 contractor marketing agencies, only 22 published a price at all.

What should I look for in a criminal defense marketing agency?

A published price, month to month terms, the ad account in your firm's name, ad hours set to when someone answers, and reports by charge. An agency that offers retargeting or bail bond co-advertising has not read Google's rules for this practice area.

Should criminal defense ads run 24 hours a day?

Only if someone answers 24 hours a day. Arrest searches come at night and on weekends, so the hours are worth paying for when the call reaches a person who can book the consultation, and wasted when it reaches voicemail.

When should a defense firm switch agencies?

When you cannot see your own account, when DUI and every other charge share one budget, when the report counts calls instead of retainers, or when a contract stops you leaving. With the account in your name, switching costs you nothing.

Is Blue Grid Media a Google Partner?

Yes. Blue Grid Media is a Google Partner. Each account manager handles 20 accounts at most, so your account gets looked at every week rather than once a quarter.

Can we work with you in Spanish?

Yes. Julian, who runs Blue Grid Media, works with clients in Spanish from the first call through onboarding, support and the monthly report, and writes Spanish ad copy himself rather than running it through a translator.

How long does Local Services Ads verification take for a law firm?

Google says the screening process takes three to four weeks on average after you submit your documents. Google Ads can run while it completes, so the account does not sit idle. Google checks the state bar license of each criminal and DUI lawyer in the firm.

What does it cost?

We charge $445 a month for Local Services Ads management, from $695 for Google Ads and $995 for both. No setup fee, no contract, month to month. Ad spend is billed by Google directly to you and we never take a percentage of it. Campaign landing pages are included.

Who owns the ad account?

You do. We open it in your name and it stays there, along with the landing pages, the call tracking numbers and the conversion history. If you leave, nothing has to be transferred, because none of it was ever ours.

Exclusive leads

Exclusive criminal defense leads, because you own the account they come from

We do not sell criminal defense leads and we do not resell them. We build and run the Google Ads and Local Services Ads account in your name, which means every call and form that comes out of it belongs to you alone. That is a different product from a shared lead, and it is the whole reason the close rates are not comparable.

A shared lead from a lead seller

  • Sold to three or four criminal defense firms at once
  • You are racing two competitors to call first
  • Priced per lead, so volume is their incentive
  • Stops the day you stop paying, with nothing left behind
  • No account, no history, no keyword data that is yours

An exclusive lead from your own account

  • Yours only. Never sold on, never shared
  • The client called you, not a directory
  • Flat management fee, so nobody profits from more spend
  • The account, history and landing pages stay with you
  • Search terms reviewed weekly, and the waste taken out

Exclusive criminal defense leads, by market

We provide exclusive criminal defense leads in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta and Phoenix, and in roughly 50 United States metros in total. Campaigns are managed remotely, so the market is set by the counties your firm practices in rather than where we sit.

WestExclusive criminal defense leads in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Phoenix, Denver, Las Vegas, Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City
Do you provide exclusive criminal defense leads in New York?
Yes. We run exclusive criminal defense lead campaigns in New York, including Long Island, Brooklyn and Queens, and in more than 45 other United States metros. The leads are exclusive because they come from a Google Ads and Local Services Ads account held in your name, so they are never resold and never shared with another firm.
Which cities do you run exclusive criminal defense lead campaigns in?
We run exclusive criminal defense lead campaigns in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta and Phoenix, and across roughly 50 metros nationwide. Campaigns are managed remotely, so coverage is set by the counties your firm practices in rather than where we are based. Smaller and rural markets are covered too, and the auction there is usually cheaper than any major metro.
Are your criminal defense leads shared with other companies?
No. We are not a lead seller. A shared lead is sold to three or four criminal defense firms at once, which is why you end up racing competitors to call first. We build and run the ad account in your name instead, so every call and form belongs to you alone, and the account, history and landing pages stay with you if we ever part ways.
Do you work with criminal defense firms with several locations?
Yes. For criminal defense firms with 2 to 9 locations we run one campaign set and one Local Services Ads profile per location, so locations in the same metro stop bidding against each other, with every account in the owner's name, at $599 a location a month. At 10 locations it is $499 a location and at 20 accounts $350 each, month to month with no setup fee. Our multi-location page shows how the locations are structured.

Not on the list does not mean not covered. We run criminal defense accounts nationwide across the United States, including smaller and rural markets where the auction is usually cheaper than any metro above.

Multi-location and franchise

Criminal defense firms with several locations, or a franchise

Blue Grid Media runs Google Ads and Local Services Ads for criminal defense firms with several locations, including franchise groups, with after-hours campaigns per office, with one campaign set and one Local Services Ads profile per location, every account in the owner's name, at $599 a location a month for 2 to 9 locations, $499 at 10 and $350 an account at 20, month to month.

One ad per auction

Google lists showing more than one ad for your business in a single ad location as a prohibited practice. Locations in the same metro are given markets instead of bidding against each other for the same criminal defense search.

Licences per location

Google asks a business serving several locations for business and employee level licences for each one, and where locations serve the same area it shows only the highest ranking ad. Each location gets its own profile, drawn to its own area.

Measured by location

A tracking number per location and booked work imported per location, so the budget moves each month to the locations with capacity and the best cost per booked job.

Franchise territories

For a franchise, location targets are copied from the territory list in the agreement, brand searches run once from the fund, and each lead goes to the owner of the territory it came from.

2 to 9 locations$599per location, per month
10 locations$499per location, per month
20 accounts$350per account, per month

A single location stays on $445 for Local Services Ads, $695 for Google Ads and $995 for both. Across the team's career we have managed franchise groups of 20 to 36 locations and 250+ contractor accounts. The account shapes are on our multi-location page, and franchise systems have their own page.

Websites and landing pages

The page that says what happens after the arrest

A family searching at night wants to know you take this charge in this county, that someone answers now and what the next step is. A page per charge that says all three gets the call before the next firm does.

Fast and mobile first

Most local searches happen on a phone, so the page is built to load fast there. Faster pages convert more of the clicks you have already paid for.

Call and form tracking wired in

Every call and form is connected to tracking from day one, so you can see which ads and which pages actually produce booked work rather than just traffic.

Local SEO and schema

On-page SEO and local schema markup so the site earns map and organic visibility over time instead of only working while the ads are switched on.
