A deck is a spring purchase decided over a winter of looking at photographs. The search for it is mostly plans, ideas and pictures. An unfiltered account pays for all of them. The homeowner who is ready to build types something different: composite, cedar, a pergola, a builder plus the town. The account that works is built on those words, timed to the weeks before the season, and measured on estimates.

Deck builders tend to have tried Google Ads once, in May, on the word deck. These are the four things we hear about how that went.
I turned the ads on in May and every good builder in town was already booked through July.
The season is sold before it opens. Homeowners decide who is building this spring in the weeks before the thaw, while they are still looking at photographs. An account that starts with the weather is filling the gaps other builders left.
The search terms were deck plans, deck stain and how to build a deck.
That is the plan book, and it is most of the volume for the word deck. The research searcher books next year, from somebody else. Plans, ideas, DIY and stain go on the negative list and the budget goes to the material, the structure and the town.
A composite deck pays me three times what a pressure-treated one does, and every lead wants pressure-treated.
One budget across both materials funds the cheaper click, and the cheaper click is wood. Composite gets its own campaign, its own page of your composite decks, and a bid the wood campaign never touches.
A guy called about a loose railing. I almost did not go. It turned into a full rebuild.
That is the repair campaign, and it should run all year. Our handyman guide puts deck and patio repair at $200 to $600, and the crew that sees the joists is the one that quotes the rebuild. It is the cheapest door into the trade and most plans leave it out.
Deck plans, deck ideas, how to build a deck, deck cost per square foot, deck stain. That is the first screen of an unmanaged deck builder account. Every row clicked. None of them a customer this month. The word deck is a project before it is a purchase, and Google treats it that way.
The buyer is in the same report typing the material or the structure: composite deck builder, cedar deck plus the town, pergola installation, screened porch. Build the account on those, put the plan-book searches on the negative list, and give each material its own page with your decks on it.

The research searcher books next year, from somebody else. Out before the first dollar.
Composite and wood are different buyers at different tickets, and a shared budget funds the cheaper click.
Per-square-foot or per-deck, a stated range filters the price shopper and the caller who calls anyway has accepted it.
A deck call is usually a price check. The estimate on the calendar is the number that predicts contracts.
Decks are built when the ground thaws and bought in the weeks before. The campaign that runs then fills the spring. The one that starts when the weather turns is filling gaps that other builders booked in February. We will not print a percentage for how much of the year lands in which month, because it varies by climate. Your own contract history has it.
Repair is the exception. Our handyman guide puts deck and patio repair at $200 to $600, and a rotted board or a loose railing is searched in any month. It is also the first contact that turns into a rebuild when the crew sees the joists.
Material campaigns at full budget in the weeks before the thaw, landing on pages that book an estimate for the first week the ground allows.
The constraint is usually the crew, not the clicks. Spending harder on traffic you cannot build is the most common in-season mistake.
Keep a small budget on repair and safety searches. Going dark costs account history and the spring ramp.
No deck cost per lead is published anywhere we trust, so this table says what each channel reaches, what it costs in kind, and where it breaks. The one dollar figure in it is the repair ticket from our handyman guide.
| Channel | Who it reaches | What it costs you | Where it falls down |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Ads, material and structure terms | Composite deck builder, cedar deck plus the town, pergola, screened porch | Per click, in an auction with no plan books once the research terms are negatives | Judged on calls it buys price checks; judged on estimates it buys decks |
| Google Ads, the word deck | Everyone looking at pictures | Per click, against plan sites and lumber retailers | Most clicks are a plan, a stain or a how-to video |
| Repair campaign, all year | The homeowner with a rotted board or a loose railing | Low per click, against a $200 to $600 ticket, and it finds the rebuilds | Usually left out, and the account goes dark in winter instead |
| Lead sellers | Whoever searched deck builder leads | Per lead, shared; deck builder leads is MEDIUM competition at $9 to $39 a click, which is sellers bidding for you | Three builders quote the same deck and the lowest per-foot number wins |
| Local Services Ads | Nobody, for decks | Nothing, because deck building is not a category | Carpenters, Fencing and Landscaping are; a company doing that work can use them for it |
Category status read from Google's list on 4 October 2026. The repair ticket is from Blue Grid Media's handyman LSA guide. Competition and click prices are from Keyword Planner on 4 October 2026. No deck cost per lead, ticket or seasonality figure is claimed.
Google publishes the categories eligible for US Local Services Ads. Carpenters is there, Landscaping services is there, Fencing services is there. Deck building is not, under that name or any other. A deck company that also does carpentry, fencing or landscaping can use those categories for that work; our fencing and landscaping pages cover them, and the landscaping page owns paver patios and hardscape.
No deck cost per lead, ticket size, close rate or seasonality percentage, because none is published for the trade and our dataset does not track it. The $200 to $600 repair figure is from Blue Grid Media's own <a href="/google-lsa-for-handyman">handyman LSA guide</a>. Google's US Local Services Ads list was read on 4 October 2026; the seven categories restricted to California and Florida are architect, drain expert, home insulation, insurance agency, interior designer, piercing studio and tattoo studio.
A composite deck, a pergola and a repair are three sales at three tickets, and the word deck on its own is typed mostly by people looking at plans and pictures. Each line below gets a campaign, a page and a conversion of its own.
The material buyers search by name once they have chosen it. Higher ticket, lower maintenance, and a page of its own.
The traditional product, price-compared, and the one where a stated range in the ad filters the shopper.
Our handyman guide puts deck and patio repair at $200 to $600. Urgent, small, and the first contact that turns into a rebuild.
Searched with their own vocabulary, often bought after the deck, and contested by far fewer advertisers.
A room, not a deck. Higher ticket, longer decision, and a buyer who is not typing deck.
Our landscaping page owns hardscape. A deck builder who sells patios runs it as a line inside this account.
Sold with the deck or as a safety upgrade to an old one. Searched by people who already have a deck.
Design-driven, portfolio-sold, and measured on estimates rather than calls.
That is the plan book. The account is paying for a homeowner who will build next year, with somebody else.
The season is sold before it opens. An account switched on in May is filling gaps.
It is not a category. Ask them to show you where it appears on Google's own list.
We read Google's own US category list on 4 October 2026 and deck building does not appear on it under any name. Paid search here means Google Ads, where you bid on keywords and pay per click. Anyone offering you deck building Local Services Ads has not checked.

Because the word deck is a project search. Plans, ideas, how-to videos and stain click all day and book next year. With those as negatives and the account built on materials, structures and the town, it is a different account.
In the weeks before the thaw, when homeowners decide who is building this spring. A repair campaign runs all year and a small floor keeps the account warm through the winter.
Yes, no minimum and no contract. The material-by-material structure fits a company that builds a few decks a month, because the account only buys the estimates the crew can take.
From $695 a month for Google Ads management, with no setup fee, no contract and month to month terms. Ad spend is billed by Google directly to you and we never take a percentage of it, and campaign landing pages are included. We do not quote a Local Services Ads price for deck building work, because Google has no deck building category to manage.
You do. We open it in your name and it stays there, along with the landing pages, the call tracking numbers and the conversion history. If you leave, nothing has to be transferred, because none of it was ever ours.
We do not sell deck building leads and we do not resell them. We build and run the Google Ads account in your name, which means every call and form that comes out of it belongs to you alone. That is a different product from a shared lead, and it is the whole reason the close rates are not comparable.

Not on the list does not mean not covered. We run deck building accounts nationwide across the United States, including smaller and rural markets where the auction is usually cheaper than any metro above.
A deck buyer has chosen composite or wood before they search. A page per material with your decks on it and a stated range filters the plan-book searcher and books the estimate.
Most contractor searches happen on a phone, so the page is built to load fast there. Faster pages convert more of the clicks you have already paid for.
Every call and form is connected to tracking from day one, so you can see which ads and which pages actually produce booked work rather than just traffic.
On-page SEO and local schema markup so the site earns map and organic visibility over time instead of only working while the ads are switched on.
