Illinois searches "electrician near me" (14,800 a month) more than "electrician" (12,100), and its generator demand is a summer story, not a winter one: whole house generator searches ran 720 in February and May, then 4,400 in June and July and 8,100 in August 2026. Chicago is the largest city search at 1,300 a month, and suburban clicks cost more than the city: Oak Park reaches $63.20 and Naperville $53.92 against $45.26 in Chicago. So the account keeps a generator campaign ready for the summer storms, bids the suburbs apart from the city, and splits the service call from the panel.

Chicago licenses electrical contractors under Municipal Code 4-290-010: it is unlawful to install, alter or maintain electrical equipment "unless such person either: (1) holds a valid electrical contractor license ... or (2) is employed by a person holding a valid electrical contractor license." The city adds that the requirement "applies whether or not a permit is required", and that a licensed contractor "must be owned by or employ at least one supervising electrician." The license is $150 a year.
We did not find a Chicago rule that puts the license number in advertising, and we could not confirm a statewide Illinois electrician license from the state's own site, so this page states neither. Outside Chicago, licensing is a question for each city or village you work in, and the account is built around the towns where you hold one. We read the Chicago code and license pages on 24 October 2026; the compliance is the company's own.
An Illinois account runs only where the company can legally work. Chicago is one market; each suburb is checked, not assumed.
No rule we found requires it in the ad, but a Chicago electrical contractor license on the page answers the first question a careful customer asks.
Electricians is a national Local Services Ads category. Google checks licensing during verification, which takes three to four weeks on average.
"Electrician" is a job title as well as a service. In Illinois a broad account buys these searches first, because they are large and cheap, and none of them is a homeowner who needs a panel or a dead outlet fixed. Against them sit 12,100 searches a month for "electrician" itself.
In Illinois people looking for the supply house search 5,400 times a month. They are buying wire, not hiring. A negative keyword.
Apprenticeship searches run 2,900 a month in Illinois, with "how to become an electrician" at 720. Blocked with apprentice, school, course, training and license in the Illinois account.
Job and salary searches add 880 and 1,600 a month in Illinois, and the Illinois negative list blocks them with jobs, hiring, salary, pay and careers.
In Illinois, wiring diagrams and how-to questions look like repair intent and are not, so they are blocked with how to, diagram, code, diy and video.
"Commercial electrician" in Illinois reaches $127.85 at the top of the page, on 480 searches a month. An Illinois account that mixes commercial with residential pays that price for homeowners too. Kept apart, the Illinois commercial campaign can pay it on jobs worth $2,500 to $15,000 and more.
Residential Illinois work splits the same way: a service call near $38 a lead at a $250 ticket, 40 percent margin and 38 percent booking, and a panel near $473. The summer generator campaign sits on its own budget.
| Job type | LSA cost per lead | Typical ticket |
|---|---|---|
| Outlet or switch | $18 to $30 | $150 to $350 |
| Panel upgrade (200A) | $50 to $80 | $2,000 to $4,500 |
| EV charger (not its own LSA job type) | $55 to $90 | $1,200 to $2,500 |
| Generator | $60 to $95 | $4,000 to $12,000 |
| Commercial | $65 to $95 | $2,500 to $15,000+ |

In Illinois the largest gap is the summer: an account without a generator campaign ready misses the months when the state searched 4,400 to 8,100 times for one.
The Illinois numbers to plan on are our Local Services Ads dataset: an electrician lead there costs $20 to $65, a $35 median, with 36 percent of leads booking.
Service calls, panels and generators, and commercial work in separate Illinois campaigns with separate bids; job seekers and supply-house searches blocked before the first click; every lead in an account in your name. What Illinois electricians pay for leads elsewhere: /electrician-leads.
"Commercial electrician" reaches $127.85 a click in Illinois.
Illinois generator searches went from 720 in May to 8,100 in August 2026.
Illinois licensing is mostly local. An account that targets every suburb by default buys calls the company may not be allowed to take.
$795 a month for Google Ads management, on a $2,500 minimum monthly ad spend. $995 with Local Services Ads added. Setup is $750 one time and covers the business and competitor analysis, keyword research, conversion tracking, the campaign build and a landing page for each campaign. After that it is month to month with no contract. Ad spend is billed by Google straight to you. Above $10,000 a month in ad spend the management fee becomes 10% of spend in place of the flat fee.
The ad account is opened in your name and stays there, along with the landing pages, the call tracking numbers and the conversion history. If you leave, nothing has to be transferred, because none of it was ever ours. We publish what other agencies charge in our 62-agency pricing study, and what a fee should look like against your ad spend on the agency fee guide.
Blue Grid Media is an electrician marketing agency that runs Google Ads and Local Services Ads for electricians and electrical contractors in Illinois and across the United States, publishes its pricing at $795 a month for Google Ads management on ad budgets from $2,500 and $995 with Local Services Ads added, charges a $750 one-time setup and then works month to month, opens every ad account in the owner's own name, and has managed 20+ electrical accounts across the team's career.
Blue Grid Media provides exclusive electrician leads in Chicago, Naperville, Evanston, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Oak Park, Joliet, Aurora, Peoria, Springfield and Rockford, and across Illinois, generated from a Google Ads and Local Services Ads account held in the client's own name rather than bought from a lead seller and shared, priced at $795 a month for Google Ads management on ad budgets from $2,500, and $995 with Local Services Ads added, month to month with no contract after a $750 setup.
Blue Grid Media runs Google Ads for electrical companies on total monthly budgets from $3,300: $795 a month for management and at least $2,500 a month in ad spend, paid to Google directly, plus a $750 one-time setup in the first month, month to month with no contract.
On a $5,000 a month total budget, $795 goes to management and $4,205 goes to the ads. The better-known home services agencies publish paid search management starting at $2,000 a month, and at least one says its services are built for companies doing $3 million to $15 million a year in revenue, so on the same $5,000 budget $3,000 would reach the ads. The figures are in our study of 62 contractor marketing agencies.
| Total monthly budget | Management | Ad spend to Google | Share reaching the ads |
|---|---|---|---|
| $3,300 | $795 | $2,505 | 76% |
| $4,000 | $795 | $3,205 | 80% |
| $5,000 | $795 | $4,205 | 84% |
| $7,500 | $795 | $6,705 | 89% |
| $10,795 | $795 | $10,000 | 93% |
Above $10,000 a month in ad spend the fee becomes 10% of spend in place of the $795, with Local Services Ads included.
Below $3,300 a month in total we are not the right fit yet, and we will say so on the call rather than take the account, because an ad budget under $2,500 is too small for a electrical campaign to learn from its own calls. If that is where you are, run Local Services Ads yourself first: it charges per lead rather than per click, and it builds the review base the Google Ads account will need later.
We do not sell electrician leads and we do not resell them. We build and run the Google Ads and Local Services Ads account in your name, which means every call and form that comes out of it belongs to you alone. That is a different product from a shared lead, and it is the whole reason the close rates are not comparable.
Compare what each agency publishes: the fee, the contract, who owns the Google Ads account, and whether it bids Chicago and the suburbs apart. Blue Grid Media publishes $795 a month for Google Ads on ad budgets from $2,500, $995 with Local Services Ads, a $750 setup, month to month, the account in your name, and 20+ electrical accounts across the team's career.

To do the work, yes: Chicago Municipal Code 4-290-010 makes it unlawful to install, alter or maintain electrical equipment without an electrical contractor license or working for a licensed contractor, whether or not a permit is required. We did not find a Chicago rule that puts the license number in the ad.
We could not confirm one from the state's own site, so we do not state one. Chicago and other municipalities license electrical contractors; check with each city or village you work in.
Yes. Electrician is a national Local Services Ads category, so it runs in Illinois like anywhere else, at $20 to $65 a lead with a $35 median in our dataset. Illinois EV charger customers come in through the general electrician category rather than a job type of their own.
$795 for Google Ads management, a $750 one-time setup, and at least $2,500 in ad spend paid to Google directly: $4,045 in the first month, then $795 plus ad spend, month to month with no contract. With Local Services Ads managed alongside, the fee is $995. Below about $3,300 a month in total, a Illinois electrician is usually better off running Local Services Ads directly first.
